These shovels were not made to be shoveling dirt. They were made to aesthetically please the rich eyes aristocrats in the seventeenth century ,also to intimidate the other neighbors who did not have the same caliber of faux shovels. These particular shovels were made by an artisan named Jefalor. There was no magic involved in making these shovels, just time and dedication above a hot forge and a sweaty brow.
A century later, a poor man found these shovels in the ruins of a castle on top of a mountain surrounded by a pristine lake filled with rocks at the bottom. He was so confused by the shovels. What can he do with shovel that couldn't dig? On the walk home, he accidentally pricked himself carrying them. These shovels were razor sharp, despite all the years of inactivity. Not that they were used really, like I said, they were used to please eyes.
Later that day, there was a sky of red tint. There were warriors on wolves coming over the mountains in front of setting sun. Back then, they rode wolves. Timber wolves.
The village that the peasant lived in had about four or five huts. They lived in a valley where trees and fruits were plentiful year long. Unfortunately, because they are in a valley, it is hard for them to escape if timber wolves riding warriors come over the mountain in front of a setting sun in the hazy red sky.
The peasant who cut with him self was bleeding profusely. He was too busy dealing with that when he got cut down by the warriors on wolves. The village people were slaughtered in the matter of minutes. While the warriors were feasting on the plentiful and savory fruit and vegetables, a volcano erupts from one of the mountains. The lava didn't actually flow in to the valley, it flowed on to the other side. However, dust fell on the village for three days straight. Village was preserved in dust.
Two hundred years later, archaeologist found the shovels and found them very interesting. They took pictures.

Opening the site in to my browser the first thing I see is The New York Times logo. Immediately I feel like this site is from a very responsible and prestigious source. I have heard this newspaper as being a great newspaper, but I don't remember where. It just seems that New York is such a big city with such a modern influence on America, it seems like it's news paper would be very exceptional.

The layout however, just seems like any one else's blog. I don't believe it's much different from any of the student blogs, except each little section is filled with information. One very notable difference is the bar at the top of the blog. It has many different topics which can be expanded in to even more topics. For example, if you click on art, there are six different sub-genres you can click on. Then if you click on a sub-genres, sometimes you can find a sub-sub-genre for that particular sub-genre. The top bar is a wealth of information for anything you are looking for.

The funny thing is that I can't seem to find the screens blog page if I go navigate the New York Times site. It might be a lower tier blog, so it can't be placed on, nevertheless the screens blog page is very interesting.

The page is totally white, black, and blue. White is the background, black is the text, and blue is the hyper-links. This is very effective in terms of a blog page, because it's very easy to read and understand. The information is clearly defined. The blogs take up 75% of the page, and the other 25% are mostly on the right side, small boxes with different stuff. (Like links to other blogs, other keywords, and some information about the author.

Getting to the content of the screens page, in the definition is proclaims it " will find, review and make sense of all those senseless new images." The author, whom I believe to be a female, is talking about internet content most likely released by amateurs in to the data world. Finding the one she finds interesting, informative, or really whatever she wants, she'll right a review about and post it on the blog.

Without even scrolling down, you can see that the most recent post is a video from youtube, not some TV footage or news source. Straight from the heart of the internet crowd, she takes it and dissects it in her own mental tools.

In all honesty, the blogs aren't that different from the ones in engl1020 section 10 class. All of ours are simplistic, just like the Screens one. We all have random stuff, just like that one. The only constraint that the Screens has is the internet base, and ours mostly deals with the internet as well. Even the language and grammar conventions seem the same as some of ours! It just seems like that one is famous.

There is small pub on a corner of Blake Street is named “The Celtic Tavern.” Walking in through the clouds of cigarette smoke there is a man of short stature manning the beer faucet. “Can I help you?” He directs me to the adjoining bar room which is separated by a no-smoking sign. On the table lays a small folded paper that says “Cupid Speed Dating Card.”

Shaking the hands of the coordinator, I sit down at a dark maple table with her. From my field of vision, I can see two tables where speed dating is going on clearly. The men are the ones that move from female to the other female. A man with a plaid red shirt, tan khakis, and slightly dirty work boots stands up quickly without a goodbye to the female from the chair when the bell is rung. Maybe he didn’t care for the speed date he was leaving. He had a small hunch and stumbled a bit while walking to his next table. He didn’t look like he had confidence in himself which because of his stature, or he maybe just had too much to drink. With a smile and hand extended, he walks to a women out of my field of vision and begins to say his name.

The coordinator is a thirty six year old woman who looks like she is thirty four. Here is the kicker, her real name is Rebecca but she wants to be called Becca. “I’m on the fucking fast track while my boyfriend is on the fucking slow one; I’m at that age where if I want a family I need to do it now.” She got comfortable with me fast, to the point that it made me slightly uncomfortable, but she had a personality that made this observation bearable.

“We even have a lesbian group monthly. This is a great place to meet people if you don’t have time or you just want to meet people. You see each person for six minutes and on your card you write if you want to see them again or not. The next day usually I sort through all these cards and if there is a mutual agreement to see each other then you’ll get their profile online.”

Seven women and five men ages thirty to forty five litter the space allotted. There are tables arranged in a cluttered fashion inside a small room like the one’s you see for private parties in country buffet. Strings of a banjo are being played softly through the speakers placed at the corners of the room, just enough to accompany any awkward silence. There are no cigarettes here, just empty drinks and beer bottles.

Before she started talking about her tribulations and woes with her relationship, she was explaining the ins-and-outs of her service. Every month she holds a few different events with all different age groups ranging from mid-twenties to late forties. Anything after that age you get menopause and erectile dysfunction. Most people are here, in her opinion, to find long term mates through an environment which lets them see many choices quickly. In the animal kingdom, this is common behavior for many species, the male and females will congregate where they can select who they wish to mate with. Becca thinks this is a more direct approach that allows people who have a hard time interacting with people can feel more comfortable because everyone is there for the same purpose.

The plaid red-shirt man was moving his fingers in a circular motion above a red card. The card rotated like how pin wheels move when blown by air. His face stared at the card. She probably had the impression that the card was much more entertaining for him. Was he just nervous and showing this tick or could it be he’s just showing active disinterest? Saying the word’s uh-huh and nodding his head to respond yes seems like his only means of communication.

When I first saw the business guy I didn’t think much of him. He had chubby cheeks, a balding head, and at most five-seven. He walked with normal confidence, head up and back straight. He was heading to the girl closest to me, though she was behind a wall so I couldn’t see her.

Business guy didn’t like this woman. At first he was doing the talking, but thirty seconds in he took the defensive position of crossing his arms. Fifteen seconds later he got up, walk toward me and Becca, and said, “Well that was short, where is the bathroom?” Becca went to talk to the woman. I caught a glimpse and saw a very surprising appearance. She was a tall and slender spiky highlighted hair woman that looked to be forty five. Garmented in army khakis and an artistic print shirt, her stature screamed a dominant personality. Words were exchanged between her and the person unloading relationship problems on me.

“I’ve never met that kind of person before.” Business person was referring to the spiky haired woman while crossing his legs in the chair in front of me. He began to tell Becca that he expected many more people here and was slightly disappointed. Somehow he threw in that he owned a house and New York and a house in Los Angelis. He also owned several businesses in those two states as well as Colorado. No wonder that woman blew him off, he uses his money angle in every instance he can.

Out of all the men there, he was the only one that didn’t seem introverted and nervous. He could only talk about his money however when I was interviewing him. His success, his name dropping, and his confidence overwhelmed me. The woman he was hoping to find here was a “half-full, half-empty” kind of woman. “A woman who would fly to New York with me on a whim to go to a theater, or talk a walk with me through the neighborhood.” This was too much for me, I was becoming too envious. He touched me when he left. Literally.

I’m doing this for my self. I’m doing this for my future. And I’m doing it for a grade. This is perfect incentive for me to finally do it. The area of girls in my life has yet to be born in my life. Well technically speaking I have been around girls my whole life, but interacting with them besides my mom is something I have actively avoided in my most recent years. I have many lame excuses that have come about by introverted fetal curling, but in reality, it doesn’t really matter why I get nervous around girls, why I choke, and why the most physical interaction with a girl I’ve had is a tackle from a tom-boy. I just need to do it, I need to get over my fears.

"The Game" is the book that made me realize that I can build up skill to interact with girls and I can change my situation. The author wasn’t much different from me; actually I would go as far to say worse off. He was a short balding man in his thirties with a talent for writing. He had this gig to write something about a man who claimed to put “women under his spell.” He had doubts, just like I had doubts in the starting chapters of the book. Then it got interesting… (I’ll leave the rest of the book for your entertainment) In short he becomes a player in a way that it made me feel like I can also achieve success like Neil.

This isn’t some creepy way like pheromones in your cologne or chloroform rags. It’s an intimidation of “natural” men who are confident and get ladies, yet takes it to another level explanation so anyone man can do it. The reason I say any man can do it, is because the mentor of Neil, a man named “Mystery,” has said that women aren’t only attracted to men’s looks. Confidence, humor, ECT.

Alpha men can be classified as naturals. You’ve seen it everywhere, guys who just get chicks. How do they do it? What do they say? Mystery explains this in his book. Mystery is one of the many people who have a guideline to help AFCs like me. (Average Frustrated Chump.) Another name is David Deangelo, whose books focus on being cocky funny and a strong personal identity.

There are many texts to help me, and I’m going to try and use them all. Getting to the point of the actual observational essay, I’m going to write my experiences approaching women anywhere I can. If I was of legal age to enter bars and such, it would be easier as females and males congregate there to socialize, contrast to malls, where they usually have a purpose other than socializing.

I don’t expect much, I don’t expect much at all. My rationalization is that I need to build up confidence to talk to these girls, and rejection is part of it. David said that out of 100 girls that you would like to date, maybe 30 of them will actually talk to you, and only 15 are nice and friendly. I’m ready to accept that one out of 100 will talk to me, and I’m going to write about all the failures in between.

I’m not going to just go up and talk to them, like hey how are you going. That is kind of creepy and unnecessary. One point mystery made is that building comfort with them first and before hand is a big no-no, and just leaves to being blown off. Straight up, no nervous twitching, legs spread apart are some things I have to work on. But I hope to get more, and I hope to achieve some confidence with just that. Hopefully in a few months I’ll be able to keep going 2 minutes of conversation.

I’m very aware this all sounds really kind of ridiculous, and stupid. But I’m going to give it a shot, and a really good shot at it. I’ve been criticized by my friends who just it’s a load of bull shit, (which I’m sure many people think) but to me it is a chance of salvation, and I’ve heard so much success, and with Neil’s book it gives me a lot of hope.
So I’m going to do it!
